On Kashmir

MapsofWorld.com shows Kashmir as part of India

Kashmir is located in North India. Since 1947, India and Pakistan have fought four wars over Kashmir. But the question is to whom does Kashmir belong - India or Pakistan? At MapsofWorld.com we are of the firm view that Kashmir is a part of India and always will be. Our belief is not just based on patriotism, but facts. Let us take a peek into history.

In 1947, after the partition of British India into India and Pakistan, the princely states were given a choice to either join India or Pakistan. At that time, Kashmir was a princely state ruled by Maharaja Hari Singh. Initially, Maharaja Hari Singh decided to remain neutral but Pakistan attacked Kashmir by sending in Muslim tribesmen. Following this, Hari Singh joined India. However, Pakistan did not recognize the accession and until today, is fighting a proxy war to get Kashmir. But as Hari Singh had joined India, Kashmir is a part of the country.

On Crimea

Crimea is not shown to be a part of Russia

The Crimean Peninsula is located on the northern coast of the Black Sea. The peninsula is completely surrounded by the Black Sea as well as the Sea of Azov. Crimea is located south of Kherson, which is a region in Ukraine, and to the west of Kuban in Russia.

Though Crimea is pro-Russian but it is a part of Ukraine. In 2014, Russia, backed by pro-Russian separatists, forcibly invaded Ukraine. This was after Viktor Yanukovych, the pro-Russian president of Ukraine, was ousted in the 2014 Ukrainian revolution.

The local authorities were forced to hold an unconstitutional referendum on Crimea's reunification with Russia. The annexation is not recognized by the majority of the international community, which regards Crimea as a part of Ukraine. However, Ukraine still asserts its right over Crimea. But we at MapsofWorld.com don't show Crimea as a part of Russia.
