Afro-Ecuadorian community is the one that came from the black African slaves during the era of Spanish Colonist. When Spain won the war on Ecuador, at that time they discovered this community known as Afro- Ecuadorian. The blend of real Ecuadorian that is the people of Latin America and the Africans resulted into the existence of an Afro-Ecuadorian community.
Afro-Ecuadorians are traditional Community that exists in Ecuador even before the mestizos. The population of Afro-Ecuadorians are lesser than the other comparatively new communities like Amerindians and Mestizos. Being the oldest of all communities after the Latin crowd, the population of Afro-Ecuadorians is limited. The population is about 8% in Ecuador. The number of unmixed communities that are the Spanish and the Africans are more in population.
The Ecuadorian people, since the year 1923, do not practice the racial discrimination and that is the reason of considering the Afro-Ecuadorians also an important community of the country. The Afro-Ecuadorians are declared as the citizens of the country by the people, way back after the Spanish colonist left their rule.
There are many famous Afro-Ecuadorians. The names are:
- The year 1996 Miss Universe, Monica Chala. The first Afro-Ecuadorian to participate in a beauty pagaent.
- Augustin Delgado, the famous soccer player who was hired by the England soccer team in the year 2001.
- A traditional music known as 'Bao' is now famous among the European music lovers, was first sung by the Afrikan Homo Sapiens music band.
There are many other Afro-Ecuadorian who represented Ecuador in many fields and won the fame. The Afro-Ecuadorians are very active by nature and that is why perform the best in their work field.
