Elections

Elections in Ecuador are conducted on national level and it elects the the head of state or the President and a legislature. The Elections in the Ecuador Government are democratic in nature and the President of the Republic and his vice-president are elected for a term of four years. Ecuador has a multi-party system which restricts a single party from coming into power for a longer period of time.

Each party has the opportunity to compete for votes from the enfranchised constituents. A multi-party system is essential for representative democracies because it prevents the leadership of a single party to set policies without any challenge.

The parties often bring up agendas and issues to win public votes. While campaigning, they should have a certain ideology and vision. The Elections in Ecuador might also end up in a coalition government in the following two occasions:

  • When there is a national crisis like war
  • And when no party wins in the election.

There are two types of elections in Ecuador. They are:

  • The presidential Elections and
  • The Parliamentary Elections

The Presidential candidates in Ecuador elections will not only have to win the votes of the electorates but also gain the confidence of the citizens. Presidential candidates in Ecuador have to face the daunting task of attaining name identification in a political field characterized by party fragmentation and instability.
