El Orient

The eastern region of Ecuador, covering the Amazonian lowlands is generally known as the El Oriente. El Oriente is a vast area of dense rain forest jungle, with a hot and humid climate, acts as a shelter to varied wildlife and different species of plants.

The vast territory of El Oriente borders with Peru, as pointed in the Ecuador geography. It is a home to thousands of Native Americans. El Oriente in Ecuador presents an opportunity to explore the dense rain forest and rich wildlife. The rivers, which drain into the Amazonian basin also allows you to go river rafting and kayaking.

Climate:

The climate of El Oriente is very comfortable. The showers are very pleasant like the showers in the northern hemisphere. In short El Oriente experiences tropical climate. Some rivers like the Napo, Coca, Misahauli flow within this area into the Amazon basin.

Places to Visit in El Oriente:

Parque Nacional Yasuni is national park attracting visitors for its rainforest, wildlife and the enticing Huaorani Islands. Lago Agrio is Ecuador's new oil town, is close to Reserva Faunistica Guyabeno, the jungle hometown to Siona and Secoya tribes. Coca another oil town is placed at the juncture of Napo and Coca rivers. Puerto Misahauli, though a small village at the conjunction of Napo and Misahauli rivers, is a famous jumping spot for trekkers. It acts as a door to the amazonian jungle. Tena, another jungle town allows you to go rafting. Its climate is soothing. Puyo, Macas, Zamora are other jungle towns worth visiting.

Wildlife:

El Oriente is famous for its biodiversity and wildlife. Here you will get to see around 15,000 species if plants, 600species of fish, 300 types of tropical birds. Parrots, macaws and tanagers are some of the colorful birds one can get to see.

A healthy tourism has developed over the past decade. There are some eco-lodges, enabling you to adventure the wildlife. These hotels also provide guides to explore the wild beauty of El Oriente. You can either fly or drive from Quito to the northern routes or from Cuneca for the southern routes to get to El oriente.
