Dia De Los Muertos is also called the Day of the Dead. Dia De Los Muertos of Ecuador is a holiday celebrated in areas such as Central and South America. The Day of the Dead is also celebrated in some of the cities of the United States, such as California, Texas, and many others, in which the Mexican/American culture exists. November 2nd is the official date for Day of the Dead, although it is celebrated between October 31st and November 2nd.
AUSPICIOUSNESS OF DIA DE LOS MUERTOS
DIA DE LOS MUERTOS is a celebration which is associated with the dead. It is not held to be a depressing time, but rather a period full of life, happiness, color, food, family, and fun. The main sign of this holiday are skulls and skeletons, which are displayed throughout the cities. Scenes of skeletons hugging, marching, dancing, and laughing are seen in window displayed on the streets. Marigolds are another significant symbol for the Day of the Dead and are known as the "flower of the dead."
CELEBRATION OF DIA DE LOS MUERTOS
People of Ecuador celebrate this holiday in their households as well as in the cemeteries. They decorate the graves with flowers, enjoy picnics comprising of favorite foods of the deceased and mingle with others at the cemetery. The common food eaten on this holiday include pan de los muertos ("bread of the dead"), which is flat bread baked in the shape of skulls and crossbones. This holiday is believed to "welcome the souls of the dead."
In the present day Dia Des Los Muertos is cherished as a holiday and is celebrated with a lively manner in spite of its morbid connotation.
