The volcanic stretch of Galapagos Islands is made up of 13 major islands and six smaller islands. This Ecuador Destination is the second largest marine reserve in the world and is spread over 19,500 square miles and was declared a National Park in 1959.
The climate of Galapagos Islands is unique because of its position between the three ocean currents. And it is therefore that it is an ideal place for shelter of about 50 percent of the rare species. Being a zone of volcanoes, vegetation is sparse here but the tourists are attracted towards the Cactus forests, growing upto 30 feet, which provide a magnificent sight. Galapagos Islands also became famous for the convention that this was the place where Charles Darwin came around his theory of evolution.
Because of the varied and rare vegetation and animal kingdom, it is important to protect them from impostors. Therefore ,about 90% of the island territory is protected and strictly administered. The sights that allow admission are few but promise full amusement.
