Ecuador Music

Ecuador Music flashes the multi-ethnic and multi-cultural nature of Ecuador. The Music of Ecuador is greatly influenced by the African rhythms, traditional Andean Music and indigenous music from the jungles. The term 'National Music' is used to denote a large variety of musical forms. The most popular Ecuadorian Music is 'Pasillo', which originated from the classic Viennese waltz. Presently, it is a part of the folk culture. 'Pasillo' has a slow rhythm, with poetic and sentimental lyrics and melancholy melodies.

Other popular Melodies of Ecuador

  • Albazos
  • Pasacalles
  • Tonadas
  • Danzantes
  • Yaravies
  • Carnavales

Apart from these, Ecuador's music based on orchestras of wind instruments, are important part of all fiestas, funerals and other social events. Ecuador Music is a combination of African, Andean and European music. This combination produced a different kind of music, which is known as 'Bomba'. Bomba also happens to be the name of a drum that makes the rhythmic base of the music and dance.

Province of Esmeraldas, located on the northern coast of the Pacific, has retained quite a lot of African culture and heritage. Vocal music in Ecuador includes a large collection of music for funerals, which is sung with a heavy percussion accompaniment. Various aboriginal communities, which include Quichua, Shuar, Achuar, Secoya, Siona, Huaorani and Cofan inhabit the Amazonian region. The traditional music of the Shuar region comes from the religious and ceremonial life of the group. Ecuador Music is quite diversified and soothing.
