Ecuador Clothing

Ecuador Clothing is quite distinct from other places. The Ecuadorians have a specific type of dress code, combining all different kinds of cultural diversities, found in the regions of Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. The Ecuadorian Clothes at times have a slight touch of Indian taste as well. In the Quito area, you can hope to see many distinctively dressed Otavalenos of Ecuador.

The men's dress usually includes a poncho, which is blue in color, a fedora, a felt hat and white calf-length knickers. The Shimba, which is a long braid, that hangs downs almost to the waist, is a sign of Indigenous ethnic identity and an important part of Ecuador Clothing. The Ecuadorian women's dress is the closest to the Inca costumes worn in Andes. A white blouse, a blue skirt with a shawl is the usual attire. Jewelries, which consist of layers of necklaces of gold beads and red coral bracelets, are very important to the Otavalo women.

Clothing of Ecuador in coastal regions includes Guayaberas for the men. This is a loose fitting men's shirt often worn in place of a jacket. For women here, light dresses are preferred. However foreigners are expected to dress up more formally for the business appointments. Meetings call for wearing coats of dark colors and tie, even in summer. While men wear coat for social occasions, women are also supposed to dress up conventionally.

Clothes from Ecuador mainly include:

  • Sweaters
  • Jackets
  • Gloves
  • Hats
  • Scarves

The raw materials used for making these products are all of highest quality. They are knitted, crocheted by hand or woven in looms. Thus Ecuador Clothing talks of class and taste.
