Halmahera, Indonesia Earthquake

No damages or casualties have been reported in the earthquake that struck Halmahera, Indonesia on 11 Sept. 2008. The earthquake of magnitude 6.6 on Richter Scale struck the region with a depth of 93 km. Minor earthquakes in the magnitude range of 4.5 to 4.8 are frequent in this region. A strong earthquake of 7.0 had hit Halmahera on May 26, 2003. The epicenter of current quake has been located at 1.865N & 127.438E, which is 119 km north of Ternate, Moluccas, Indonesia, 291 km east of Manado, Sulawesi, Indonesia and 994 km southwest of Koror, Palau.
