An earthquake of magnitude 6.3 on the Richter Scale struck the Eastern New Guinea region in Papua New Guinea on 30th Aug 2008. This is the second earthquke in this region in the year 2008. A moderate earthquake of magnitude 5.3 had struck the same region on July 26 this year. In November last year, a strong earthquake with magnitude 6.7 had also struck this region in the Eastern Coast. The present earthquake, whose epicenter has been located at 6.194S & 147.255E, had a depth of 56 km.
