Denmark is geologically the smallest and southernmost Nordic country and is a division of the European Union . Denmark is situated in Scandinavia which is in northern Europe . It borders the Baltic Sea and the North Sea and comprises of a peninsula attached to Northern Germany called Jutland. Denmark lies on the northern part of Germany, which is its only connection to the European mainland, southwest of Sweden and south of Norway. The Oresund Bridge connects Zealand with Sweden, the Great Belt Bridge connects Funen with Zealand, and the Little Belt Bridge connects Jutland with Funen.
Denmark state in Europe owes its origins to Danes who migrated to this portion from Sweden during AD 500. Although, Denmark remained neutral during both the World Wars, it surrendered to Germany in 1940.
Considering the northern latitudinal location of Denmark , it has a fairly mild climate all year round. The mildness is usually influenced by the westerly winds and also by the fact that the country is largely surrounded by water. Great deal of winds blows mainly during winters. February is the coldest month having mean temperatures of 0ºC and July is the hottest month with temperatures ranging up to 17ºC. There is a large amount of rainfall throughout the year. The winters are cooler and have short daylight hours. The variation between day and night is very little. Many tourists prefer to visit this place during April, May and June when the weather begins to warm up and daylight hours increase.
Denmark is a constitutional monarchy and has been a member of the European Union after it has joined the European Economic Community in 1973.
