Abenra , the Baltic resort lies surrounded by forests on the southeastern side of Jutland. It is on the western bank of the fjord of the same name. Abenra was the town with the largest harbor in South Jutland in the year 1935. During the 17 th and 18 th centuries, ships sailed from Abenra to South America and the Far East. There are many existing buildings of that era when the populace enjoyed considerable prosperity. The current population of the city is 16,126.
Abenra came into prominence during the 12 th century when it was attacked by the Wends. It was granted a charter in 1335 and grew from a fishing village to a thriving port during the 17 th and 18 th centuries. The city was earlier under German rule until a plebiscite was held in 1920. Presently, Abenra is an important marketing center with a large import trade and is the biggest port in southeastern Jutland. The local industries in the region include food processing, pipe-organ building, fishing and machinery production. Apart from fishing and shipping, trading in cattle, timber and cereals is of great importance.
The climate of Abenra is mainly of a temperate type with an average minimum temperature of -3ºC during the months of January, February and March. In summers, the temperatures range between 12ºC-15ºC. The place is also affected by maritime influences.
