Kutna Hora, situated at 60 km from Prague in the Central bohemian region, is one of the most popular Czech Republic religious sites and is visited by numerous people every year. The construction of The Cathedral of St.Barbora was initiated by Peter Parle? in 1380 but years passed on in between before it was finally completed in 1420 by devotees like Benedict Rejt and Matthias Rejsek among others. Renovation and further developmental works, however, continued later especially by the Jesuits.
The cathedral of Kutna Hora is one of the most valuable Czech monuments and was built in the honor of, St.Barbora, the patron saint of miners. The iconographic motives of the mint masters´ work still glows bright. an unique depiction of the strange relation of space to landscape adorns the Smíškov chapel.
The religious site of Kutná Hora houses several other churches spread across the region like the Parsonage Church of St. Jacob, Church of the Virgin Mary, Church of St. Jan of Nepomuk and the Cathedral of the Assumption of Our Lady in nearby Sedlec. These churches and monasteries have are architectural splendors in their own rite and still guards some of the precious mural paintings from the time of the Medieval and Renaissance art.
