Elbe River



The Elbe River is not only one of the important rivers of Czech Republic but also a major one in Central Europe. Flowing through Germany and Czech, it heads to the North Sea. The Elbe River has its source in the Kroknose Mountains, very close to the Czech - Polish border.

The Elbe River covers a distance of more than a thousand Kilometers in its course. It its way it is joined by many small and large streams like the Bile Albe and Male Labe. The River Elbe has immense historical importance attached to it. Many great battles had been fought on the banks of the old river. The Elbe River crosses and touches many important places on its way. Some of the significant cities are:

  • Wittenberg
  • Bad Schandau
  • Torgau
  • Tangermunde
Elbe River encourages water sports and other activities like rafting, canoing, boating, fishing, swimming and yachting. The regal cruises on Elbe River are enchanting and exciting at the same time. The fascinating journey along the elegant river usually ends at the majestic capital of the country - Prague.
