The Ore Mountains stand majestically as a natural border between the states of Germany and Czech Republic. It runs for around 150 km in length and measures around 40 km in width. The Bohemian Ore mountains or the south - eastern edge of the range rises steeply to about 750 meters but the gradient in the north western face is milder. The highest point in the mountain range is the peak of Klinovec that rises to an elevation of around 1,244 meters on the Czech side. The Ore mountains extend till the lower Bavarian Fichtelgebirge in the west and merges with the Elbe sandstone mountains in the east.
The Czech Ore mountains have experienced numerous volcanic eruptions which makes the region rich in mineral hot springs and metallic ores of fluorspar, silver, iron, copper, tin, cobalt and uranium. The water of these springs are believed to have healing properties, thus, attracting curious visitors. The crisp mountain air and dazzling sunshine of the Ore mountains beckon the holiday makers from far and wide and make it a hot destination for numerous summer and winter activities. A ski lover's paradise, the Ore mountains are also famous for its meandering cycle trails, mountain biking and hiking.
