The Ceské Stredohorí is one of the renowned Czech mountain ranges stretching along either banks of the River Elbe in the northern part of Czech Republic. Research shows that the Ceské Stredohorí had been formed in the tertiary age, along the same time the Elbe Sandstone Mountains were formed.
The unique conical hills of Ceské Stredohorí that characterize the mountain range is believed to have been formed by volcanic activities which forced the igneous rocks to up fold and form the interesting features. The mountain, made up of phonolite and basalt rocks, covers an area of 1063 sq. km. and is blessed with alkaline soil that makes the region rich in flora and fauna.
The Ceské Stredohorí lies between 50ş18’ to 50ş52’ North Latitude and from 14ş32’ to 13ş43’ East Longitude. The highest point in Ceské Stredohorí is the summit of Milesovka with an elevation of 836 meter above the sea level. The mountain range supports a wide range of bio - diversity encompassing 5 National nature reserves, including the Malý, Boren, and Velký štít national nature reserves, and 12 other nature reserves. The mountain range has 8 National nature monuments and 19 Nature monuments that attracts numerous tourists to this unique mountain range.
