Czech Mountain ranges are an integral part of the geography of the country. Surrounded by small and big mountains, Czech Republic is home to some of the important mountains of the world. Šumava and Krkonoše are some of the most prominent Czech mountain ranges which are also the origin points of Czech Rivers Vltava and Elbe respectively. The highest point of Czech Republic is the mountain of Snežka, which rises up to a height of 1,602 meters.
Czech mountain ranges surround most of the Bohemian Basin and almost for half the year they are covered with snow. When after the winter months the snow starts melting, they become sources of important rivers. Thus the Czech mountain ranges greatly affect the Geography of the region. There are a number of Czech mountain ranges, these include:
- The Morava: Silesian Beskydy Mountains: These Czech mountain ranges are located in the Northern part of Moravia, in the Eastern part of Czech Republic.
- Sumava: Literally meaning the Bohemian Forest, this is the third highest Czech mountain range. This range also creates a natural boundary between the Czech Republic and Germany.
- Hruby Jesenik: Also called the Ash Mountains, this Czech mountain range is located in Northern Moravia. This is the second highest Czech mountain range.
- Krkonose or the Giant Mountains: This Czech mountain range runs for about 40 Kilometers into the territory of Bohemia thus forming a natural border between Poland and Czech Republic.
