The democratic republic of Czech Republic has a strong multi-party character. The political scenario is dominated by several
Political Parties of Czech Republic, some of which are nationalist parties while are strong communists.
Amongst the
Political Parties of Czech Republic, there are four major parties that spearhead the political scenario as well as several smaller and weaker parties. The numerous parties formed by the Chamber of deputies include:
- Civic Democratic Party (ODS )
- Green Party (SZ)
- Christian and Democratic Union
- Czech Social Democratic Party (CSSD)
- Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia (KSCM )
The ODS is the major right wing party while the CSSD is the dominant leftist party. The Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia is the worthy successor of Communist Party of Czechoslovakia. In fact the current Czech government is led by Prime Minister Mirek Topolanbek, an ODS representative.
The other significant parties that are represented by a medley of the chambers of parliament and the European parliament include the:
- Liberal Reform Party (LIRA)
- Independents Democrats
- SNK European Democrats (SNK ED - SNK)
- The Independents
- Freedom Union-Democratic Union (US-DEU)
There are several other smaller political parties that are yearning to establish a political stronghold in Czech Republic. However these parties do not have a parliamentary representation. The Czech National Social Party, Czech crown, Club of Committed Non-Party Members and the General Civic Party fall in this category.
