Basketball Federation in Cyprus

The Cyprus Basketball Federation was established way back in 1966. Its present administrative body comprises of the President, Vice President, Secretary General, Assistant General Secretary, Trustee of National Teams, Cashier, the Director and some board members. The Basketball Federation in Cyprus, at present, functions under the president ship of Georgios Chrysostomou .The Federation works at the promotion and the development of the game in the country. The association aims at creating a team with the potential of making its mark in the international basketball tournaments. It attempts to improve the infrastructure and provide the players with world class facilities.

The Basketball Federation of Cyprus has its headquarters in the capital city of Nicosia. It was incorporated into and became an active member of the FIBA in 1974. The Cyprian national basketball team as well as the member club teams has been competing regularly in the Pan European Championships since then. The Basketball
Federation in Cyprus has several clubs affiliated to it. It is the governing body of these member clubs. These members include 9 A Division Men teams, 13 B Division Men teams and 7 A Division Women teams.

The Cyprus Basketball Federation works with certain objectives in place and strives hard to fulfill them. Its primary aim is to promote the game and to make it popular with the people. This would also help in getting sponsors and ensure adequate finances which could be used up for developing the basic infrastructure. The Federation organizes several local basketball tourneys and supervises these events. Local basketball tournaments cannot be held without the consent of the Federation. The ultimate aim of the Cyprus Basketball Federation is, however, is to make the game reach out to the majority of the population and to develop love and passion for the game amongst them.
