Cyprus Science and Technology is developing gradually. The primary initiative in this regard has been taken by the various colleges and universities which offer several courses and degrees in basic and applied sciences. According to an available statistical record the total expenditure incurred for the purpose of research and development in scientific fields was around 5.6 million Cyprus pounds per annum. It involved around 147 engineers and scientists and 165 technicians. There is also the Cyprus Research Center which funds research projects in the domain of social sciences.
The cause of Science and Technology in Cyprus is forwarded by the Cyprus Institute. It is basically an educational and research based organization with technological and scientific predilection. The scientific and technological innovations are all aimed at the greater good of humanity. The Cyprus Institute was created with the purpose of serving as a research base in the Middle East, North Africa and the Mediterranean regions and work on scientific issues pertaining to the regions as well. The Cyprus Institute has recently launched the The Science and Technology in Archeology Research Center or STARC in collaboration with the Centre de Recherche et de restauration des musees de France or C2RMF. Apart from STARC, the other institution that was opened and scheduled to start work from September 2007, will emphasize on environment, water issues and energy. The institute will work in tandem with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The scientific domains of study and research will include the life sciences, economic development along with computation techniques based on science and technology.
