Cyprus Ethnic Groups

Cyprus Ethnic Groups constitute a major part of the total population of the country. The characteristic culture, language, dress, food, and so on differentiate one ethnic group of Cyprus people from the other. The majority of the population belongs to the ethnic group of Greek Cypriots. As an aftermath of the Turkish Conquest during the 16th Century, Cyprus witnessed a number of Turkish immigrants settling down on the island. Many Turks were also brought in as laborers to work for the Turkish Sultan. The Turkish Cypriots form the minority of Cyprus Ethnic Groups. The ethnic groups of Cyprus preserved their authenticity mainly because of the absence of the practice of intermarriage. The other ethnic groups forming parts of the population include Armenians, Maronites, etc. The main languages spoken are Greek, Turkish and Arabic. English is also used as a means of communication.
