University of Cyprus was set up in the year 1989. The University of Cyprus is situated in Nicosia which is the capital of Cyprus.
During 2004-2005 the number of students studying in the University of Cyprus was around 3,500. Greek and Turkish are the official medium of instruction of this university. But the students are chiefly taught in Greek language. The Council and the Senate regulates the functioning of this University.

The eligibility required for Turkish Cypriots to get admission to the University of Cyprus is a diploma of 6 years of high school. Apart from this before getting admission they also have to qualify the special examination of the university.
The admission procedure for overseas students in this university is that they should have sound knowledge of Greek or Turkish language. Their admission is also based on GCE or GCSE or some other examination of same type or the special examination held by the University.
The fee structure of the University of Cyprus is as follows:
- Cypriot students need to give 1000 Cyprus Pounds for each semester
- Foreign students need to give 2000 Cyprus Pounds for each semester
- Students doing Master in Business Administration need to give all total 6000 Cyprus Pounds
- Students doing Ph.D. need to give a minimum fee of 2000 Cyprus Pounds
For studying, the syllabus of this university is grounded on credit hours. With the successful completion of 120 credit hours the student of this university is granted a graduate degree.
