Cyprus Fishing and Forestry is of minor importance in Cyprus economy. Cyprus fishing and forestry are the small scale industries in Cyprus.
Turkish encroachment resulted in a loss of the more fish yielding regions. Cyprus took loans and grants from the Department of Fisheries by the end of 1980 for ensuring the existence of a fishing fleet which included various small water crafts. Yearly catch of fish outweighed those predating 1974. During the year 1989 the alive weight of summed up fish caught was 2,600 tons.
During 1980 the farms of saltwater and freshwater fish were also seen functioning. A good deal of output was exported. A plan was made of opening an experimental fish farm at Meneou during 1990.
The deficiency of nutrients in coastal waters has disabled the fishing industry of Cyprus to go beyond the small scale level. Another reason behind this slow growth of this small scale industry is the inadequacy of planktons which are required for sustaining large numbers of fish.
In the Greek Cypriot economy the contribution of forestry is very little. From 1986 to 1988 the forestry of Cyprus contributed 0.01 % to agriculture.
The state possessed almost all the forests of southern part. The forests of Cyprus got tarnished by the Turkish invasion during the year 1974. The damaged forests were restored in 1980 by the projects of re-afforestation.
At one time Cyprus was notable for its extended forests. For the purpose of building construction and fuel, the timber of the forest has almost come to an end.
Cyprus fishing and forestry is growing at a very slow pace in the country's economy.
