Cuba Cigar, one of the old habits of the Cubans is today spread all over the world. It is very difficult to state when it was first grown or smoked but it is easy to be sure of the fact that the inhabitants of Europe were unaware of tobacco until after the Columbus epic voyage of 1492. The Cuban Indian sailors introduced the Cigars of Cuba to the Europeans and then to the Spanish. Initially Cigars of Cuba used to be twisted dry tobacco leaves rolled in other leaves such as palm or plantain.
Cigars, more or less in the form that we know today were first made in Spain in the early 18 th century using Cuban Tobacco. At that point of time no cigars were exported from Cuba. Cuban Tobacco seeds grew its importance with time as people started to know about them and their taste. Cigar factories were later set up in the Connecticut area, processing the tobacco grown from the Cuban seed. As a demand to the machine made Cigars of Cuba grew, the production also grew. After 1920, the manufacture and smoking of handmade cigars fell drastically.
