World Cup Statistics & Records







Records chronicle some of the outstanding performances of the players. As it may not be possible to remember each and every performance of different players, records help us to keep a track of some of the most brilliant contributions towards the game. Though there are hundreds of different records we will highlight some of them.






WORLD CUP STATISTICS & RECORDS

Records at a glance:

  • Sri Lanka holds the record for scoring the maximum runs in a match. They scored 398/5 against Kenya at Kandy during the 1996 World Cup.
  • Canada has the dubious record of being dismissed for the lowest score in World Cup history. They were bowled out for 36 by Sri Lanka at Paarl in the 2003 World Cup.
  • With 1732 runs to his credit, Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for scoring the maximum number of runs at the World Cup.
  • Gary Kirsten had scored 188 not out against the United Arab Emirates in Rawalpindi during the 1996 World Cup. His effort is the highest individual score till date.
  • Lance Klusener of South Africa holds the record for the highest strike rate (121.17) at the World Cup.
  • Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and Mark Waugh jointly holds the record for scoring the maximum number of centuries at the World Cup. All of them have scored four centuries each .
  • With 23 sixes, Sourav Ganguly holds the record for the maximum sixes at the World Cup. Ricky Ponting holds the record for the maximum number of sixes in an innings. He hit eight sixes in his knock against India in the Final of the 2003 World Cup.
  • Sourav Ganguly also holds the record for scoring the most number of boundaries in a match. He hit 17 fours against Sri Lanka at Taunton during the 1999 World Cup.
  • The match between the West Indies and Canada at the 2003 World Cup saw quite a few records being broken. Brian Lara scored the fastest fifty while his rival James Davison recorded the fastest century. Lara achieved his feat in 23 balls while Dawson completed his 100 in 67 balls.
  • Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid holds the record for the highest partnership at the World Cup. They added 318 runs for the second wicket against Sri Lanka at Taunton in 1999.
  • Wasim Akram has taken the most wickets at the World Cup. He has scalped 55 wickets in 38 matches.
  • In the department of fielding, Ricky Ponting of Australia holds the records for the most catches with 18 catches in 28 matches and, with 35 dismissals in 20 matches, Adam Gilchrist holds the record for effecting the maximum dismissals at the World Cup.
