Sri Lanka Team
Sri Lanka has been playing in the World Cup since 1975. In the first two editions, they had to qualify as they were a non-Test playing nation. From 1983, they were invited to play as they had acquired Test status by then. Sri Lanka has won the World Cup in 1996 and had made it to the last four in 2003. They revolutionized the concept of the first 15 overs in One-Day Internationals. Earlier, teams used to play these overs very cautiously but they showed the world how to take advantage of the fielding restrictions. Sanath Jayasuriya and Romesh Kaluwitharana became a household name with their display of aggressive batting.
The Sri Lankan side is on a roll lately. They played some good cricket in New Zealand and will also play a series against India in preparation for their World Cup campaign.
