South Africa Team
South Africa is one of the leading contenders for the 2007 World Cup crown. The squad, lead by Graeme Smith, has been performing very well recently. They beat India 4-0 in the just concluded bilateral series on their home ground. South Africa first played at the World Cup in 1992 after their ban was lifted. In their first appearance itself, they made it to the semi-finals. Since then they have been performing very well on a regular basis.
Under Hansie Cronje, their erstwhile captain who was later removed due to his involvement in match fixing, the South African team grew as cohesive unit. He had a very high success rate and South Africa won around 80 per cent of their matches under him. Jonty Rhodes was instrumental in revolutionizing the art of fielding. He became the model of every youngster with his flying saves and dives. There are also some other notable players like Gary Kirsten, Daryl Cullinan and Allan Donald.
