People of Syria

most of the people of the Syrian Arab Republic are originally Arabs. The other minor ethnic races present in Syria are the Kurds and Armenians. Most of the nation's population is Muslims of the Sunni order; however, there is also a minority community called the Alawite, or the Shi'a, who are politically quite dominant. Besides them there is also a small Christian minority in the Syrian Arab Republic.

Arts, Culture and Music of Syria

  • Art : the chief traditional art forms of the Syrian Arab Republic are embroidery done with silver thread, glass beads, buttons and coins; weaving carpets, rugs and wall hangings; ethnic silver jewellery and wares; antique tribal jewelry; ceramics and pottery; and basketry.
  • Culture : the Syrian Arab Republic is a staunchly traditional and strongly cultural nation that adheres to practices that have filtered down through the ages. In the Syrian society, religion, respect, family, education and self discipline and are the things that feature in the list of factors that are most important to the growth of a being. Syria's chief traditional contribution to the world is the root of the Phoenician alphabet called the “Ugarit cuneiform”. The Syrian Arab republic also has several dance forms like the “ Al-Samah”, the sword dance and the “Dabkes”.
  • Music : the Syrian Arab Republic has a classic musical genre that is very like Arab. In fact, there is practically little or no difference between the two. There is a foem of lyrical poetry that is typical of the Andalous and is sung; it is called the “Muwashshah”. The other type of music that is both ancient and also popular in the Syrian Arab Republic, it is called the “Christian Hymnody”. This liturgical music is a store house of culture and tradition and is also referred to as the ‘Syrian chant'.
  • Flag of Syria

the flag of the Syrian Arab Republic is a simple and rectangular flag. There are four colors that make up the flag in three equal horizontal stripes and two stars. These colors are red, green, white and black (top to bottom). The central white stripe also contains two equal sized green five-pointed stars that lie on the same horizontal line – one off-center left and the other off-center right. One of the stars stands for Syria, while the other shares a dispute between either Egypt or Iraq. Actually inspired by the flag of France, the colors that dominate it are all pro-Arab and are a part of the Arab Liberation flag.

    Economy of Syria

the economy of the Syrian Arab Republic is dependent more on the natural resources and the industrial produces of the country than on agriculture. Though agricultural produces of the Syrian Arab republic include such crops as wheat, barley, cotton, lentils, chickpeas, olives and sugar beets, most of the produce are used up in national consumption. However, cotton, fruits and vegetables are important export commodities. The naturally available minerals and other resources of the Syrian Arab Republic are either exported as raw materials or they are processed. As a result of this the industrial sector too brings considerable amounts of revenue for the country. Some of the minerals available in the Syrian Arab Republic are asphalt, gypsum, petroleum, marble, phosphates, rock salt, chrome, iron ore, manganese ores and hydropower. Industries in the country include phosphate rock mining, petroleum, tobacco, textiles, rearing livestock, beverage brewing and food processing.
