given that Sweden is a part of Scandinavia, most people belong originally to the Scandinavian race; though nationalities may vary. Specifically, they comprise of the Lapps, Nords, Danes, Norwegians, the Finnish and Sami. The foreign races include the Iraqis, Yugoslavs, Greeks, Turks and Bosnians.

Arts, Culture and Music of Sweden

  • Art : Sweden is more famous for its artists, who are mostly writers. Some of these artists are Astrid Lindgren, Vilhelm Moberg and Ingmar Bergman. However, Sweden's claim to fame is Alfred Nobel who not just invented dynamite, but also founded the Nobel Prize. The other famous scientist is Carl Von Linne, who is best known for his contribution to taxonomy of plants.
  • Culture : the culture of Sweden is predominantly Scandinavian. So there are plenty of Viking influences to be seen in the lifestyle and architecture in Sweden. Sweden is famous for having quite a classless society that for centuries lacked any kind of vassalage. Its people are also held as the most dynamic and global.
  • Music : Sweden's music is Scandinavian in origin. However, it is also very modern and European. The diverse genres of music prevalent in Sweden are medieval, baroque, jazz, folk and rock. The traditional music genres of Sweden like the polska, polka, mazurka, waltz and schottische are imports from its political neighbors.

The two types of music unique to Sweden are the ‘Ballad' – most of which descended form the ‘Skillingtryck' – and the ‘Kulning' – which is a cow-herd call sung by women. The primary musical instruments that accompany the songs of Sweden are the harmonicas, clarinet, Swedish bagpipes, accordion, nyckelharpa and fiddle.

Flag of Sweden

Sweden has a flag that is very basic in design. This rectangular shaped flag has a blue background on which is superimposed a light yellow cross with vertical and horizontal arms that cover the length and width of the flag. This cross, with its vertical arms tending towards the left side, is better known as the “Scandinavian Cross”. While the color scheme – that of blue and yellow – resembles the country's blazon; the cross is imported from the flag of Denmark.

Economy of Sweden

Sweden can boast of the fact that besides being quite a picturesque country, it has one of the most stable and also dynamic economies in the continent of Europe. Boosting its economy is its abundant natural resources which include iron ore, zinc, copper, tungsten, lead, silver, gold, arsenic, uranium and Feldspar. Given that the country has dense forests, timber is another natural commodity that can be had in abundance. The country also is a major producer of hydropower. As a result of the extensive numbers of raw materials, industries too thrive. The chief industries in Sweden are iron and steel, wood pulp, paper products, processed foods, motor vehicles and precision equipment like radio parts, bearings, armaments, telephone parts etc. most of these also feature in the list of commodities that are exported from the country.
