The island-nation of Saint Kitts and Nevis has a pleasant and warm Caribbean climate. Sometimes it can get unduly hot too, but this heat is infallibly tempered by the regular trade winds.

Climate of Saint Kitts and Nevis :The winters are extremely pleasant and dry; while most of the rainfall is experiences in the summers. The summer months last between May and October, while winters are between November and April.

  • Flora : flora in the Saint Kitts and Nevis islands comprises of a tropical heaven. The tropical variety includes hardwoods as well as flowers. Some of the popular varieties are coconut palms, palmettos, cabbage palms, gumlin, burrwood, sweetwood, mosses, acacia, ferns, pear cactus, white cedar, blackmast, loblolly, Lemon trees, and tamarind. Popular flowering varieties include poincianas, bougainvillea and hibiscus.
  • Fauna : fauna in the Saint Kitts and Nevis islands is not as various as the islands' plant life. However, there are some rare varieties that can be sighted in the islands. The black-faced vervet monkeys are the common land fauna. The marine fauna is more exotic with spiny lobster, queen conch, hawksbill turtles and green sea turtles forming the list.

    People of Saint Kitts and Nevis : more than 90% of the islanders have descended from African slave ancestors. The rest of the population of the islands comprise of small groups of British, French, Portuguese, Irish, Carib and Lebanese people. There is also a minor population of people form the neighboring islands.

  • Art : all works of art in the islands of Saint Kitts and Nevis are native in essence. The chief medium of expression for the arts and crafts in the islands is pottery which is fashioned out of red clay and is glazed with different colors and indigenous motifs to add a special effect. Traditional paintings are also an important artistic medium; most of them depict island landscapes, islanders and various other cultural aspects. Rug weaving, wood carving, leather crafting and jewelry making are the other native arts.

  • Culture : the culture of the Caribbean Islands of Saint Kitts and Nevis is predominantly African; even though the original inhabitants of the islands were Carib Indians. The African people arrived on the islands after the British took over. They were brought to the islands as slaves to work in the plantations. Currently Saint Kitts and Nevis' composite culture comprises of mainly Creole and English traits along with subdued but present French, Irish and Carib features.

  • Music : Saint Kitts and Nevis is known throughout the Caribbean for being a place that celebrates plenty of music festivals. Some of them are the Carnival, the St Kitts Music Festival, Culturama, the Inner City Fest, the Green Valley Festival, Easterama, Fest-Tab and La festival de Capisterre. However, the chief genres of music in the islands of Saint Kitts and Nevis are jazz, calypso, soca, salsa and steelpan music.

    Saint Kitts and Nevis has a rectangular shaped flag that is dominated by the colors that are generally held to be pan-African. The colors in the flag are red, green, yellow, white and black. The flag is divided into two right-angled triangles by a diagonal yellow-edged black band running from bottom left to top right. In the black stripe are two white five-pointed stars. The top left triangle is green in color, while the bottom right one is red.


    Economy of Saint Kitts and Nevis : the economy of the island country of Saint Kitts and Nevis relies mostly on its arable land for its economic sustenance. In fact, most of the industries revolve around the country's agricultural produce. The chief crops of the islands include sugarcane, cotton, rice, tobacco, yams and vegetables. Industries in the country are based on processing sugar, cotton and tobacco; also salt refining and fishing are major industries. The fervor of the tourism industry has also caught on since the recent past. The main export commodities from the country are food, beverages, tobacco, machinery and other electronics.
