Reunion Economy

PEOPLE OF REUNION : Nearly 720,934 people reside in the Department of Réunion. The various ethnic groups that exist in this country are French, African, Chinese, Pakistani, Malagasy and Indian. Though French is the official language of the country, Creole is also spoken widely in various corners of the country.

ART, CULTURE AND MUSIC OF REUNION :

•  Art : Literature is the primary section of artistic expressions in Department of Réunion . Besides that some local handicrafts also exist in various regions of the country.

•  Culture : A strong influence of Europe, Africa, china and India can be seen in the culture of Reunion. Music is an integral part of its tradition. Various rituals and customes have been accepted in the tradition of the country.

•  Music : Music of Reunion is very much encouraged. The various forms of music in this country are maloya music, vodun, sega music, Taarab and so on. Taarab is music that has been adopted from Tanzania.

FLAG OF REUNION : The flag of Reunion features the French flag in the hoist side. There are three vertical columns i.e. blue, white and red. The rest part of the flag bears four triangle of same size. The triangle in the left side is blue, the upper one is orangish dolden, the lower one is green and the triangle in the right side or fly side in red. A white sphere covers all the apexes of the triangles. However this is the unofficial flag of Reunion. For all the official events, the flag of France is used.

ECONOMY OF REUNION : The economy of Reunion is stable. Basically it highly depends on its agriculture, but nowadays the service sector has also improved a lot. The agricultural products are vanilla, tobacco, corn, sugarcane, tropical fruits, vegetables etc. The industries that are growing very fast are rum industry, cigarette industry, sugar industry, handicraft industry, flower oil extraction industry and so on. The materials that are exported are primarily rum, molasses, sugar, lobster, perfume etc. France, Japan and Comoros are the main nations that are involved in this export trade with Reunion.
