INTRODUCTION TO QATAR :
Qatar was under the rule of Persians for ages. Ottoman Turks and the British also ruled Qatar for years. At last on 3 rd September in the year 1871, it regained its independence.
The State of Qatar is an Arab nation that is located in the Middle East and in the western regions of the Asian continent. The Qatar Peninsula lies in the northeastern coast of Arabian Peninsula. The neighboring country that shares its border with Qatar is Saudi Arabia in the southern side. Persian Gulf is surrounding the country from all sides.
PHYSICAL MAP OF QATAR :
The surface of the State of Qatar is covered with flat plains, deserts, uplands, lowlands and plateaus. Desert covers a considerable portion of the country. The desert region is full of sand dunes, rocks and pebbles. The Qurayn Abu al Bawl that rises almost 103 meters above the sea level claims the highest altitude of the country. On the other hand the Persian Gulf is the lowest point of the country.
The flag of Qatar is really beautiful. The main part of the flag is maroon and it has a serrated band colored in white. There are total nine white teeth in the flag. The white part is featured on the hoist side of the flag. This flag was adopted in the year 1949. The color maroon is popularly known as Qatar Maroon. The flag of Bahrain which is there in the bahrain history is has some similarity to it. However you can recognize it by the teeth forms.
CLIMATE OF QATAR :
The climate of Qatar is more or less arid throughout the year. The summer remains between May and September. Summer is very warm and wet in Qatar. The average temperature during the summer months is usually 35°C. Often it also reaches 50°C. On the other hand the winter months are December, January and February. The winter is pleasing in Qatar. So tourists like this period to travel this country. Rainfall also occurs during this period.
FLORA AND FAUNA OF QATAR :
• Flora : Since Gulf desert covers a large portion of the country; Qatar's vegetation is not so rich. However you will find some desert plants in this country such as cactus and so on.
• Fauna : The animal kingdom is also sparse. Jerboas or the wild rats, fox etc are found in the country. The bird life is diverse with various unique species such as include osprey, flamingo, kestrel, cormorant, plover, lark and so on. Besides that, monitors, different species of lizards, venomous snakes etc can also be seen in his country. The sea animals include king mackerel, shark, prawn, grouper, swordfish etc.
PEOPLE OF QATAR :
The total population of the State of Qatar is almost 885,359. The various ethnic groups of the country are Arab, Indian, Pakistani, Iranian and so on. Islam is the only religion in this country. Arabic is the official language of Qatar. However, English and Urdu are also spoken widely in various corners of the country.
ART, CULTURE AND MUSIC OF QATAR :
• Art : Bedouin poetry is a very important part of art of this country. Besides literature, some local handicrafts also exist in various parts of the country.
• Culture : Qatar is an Arabian country. So you can well imagine that Islam is the only religion here. The Islamic tradition involves dance and music. Dances are performed for Doha on Fridays. Some forms of dance are the Ardah (performed in marriages) etc.
• Music : Music is also a very important section of this county. Khaliji music is very popular in Qatar. Some of the musical instruments are tambourine, cymbals, along with small drums; string instruments like oud and rebaba, Arabian flute and so on.
ECONOMY OF QATAR :
The economy of Qatar highly depends on its export trade. The agricultural products of the country are vegetables, different types of fruits etc. Some of the industries that are growing fast in this country are ammonia industry, fertilizer industry, petrochemicals, crude oil industry, steel industry, ship repairing industry, cement industry and so on. The things that are exported are petroleum products, liquefied natural gas (LNG), fertilizers, steel etc. Japan, South Korea and Singapore are the primary partners in this business.
