About Vietnam

Vietnam or Socialist Republic of Vietnam is situated towards the eastern part of the Indochinese Peninsula. The capital of Vietnam is Hanoi . The country features amongst the " Next Eleven" economies. In 2006 Vietnam has recorded the fastest GDP growth rate in South east Asia and the second fastest in East Asia. Vietnam as many will recall still today a country shrouded in wars ams political tensions and not definitely an itinerary is actually emerging in recent times as one of the remarkable tourist destinations of the world.

The mainland territory of Vietnam is a S shaped land covering an area of 329,241 square kilometers. The geographic coordinates of Vietnam consists of latitude 102º 08' - 109º 28' east and longitude 8º 02' - 23º 23' north. It is bordered with China in the north ,Laos and Cambodia in the west and South China Sea in the east.

The Map of Vietnam is divided into 3 regions namely the north, central and the south. In the northern part lies mountains,the Cao Bang and Vinh Yen plains,the Red River Delta,the spectacular Halong Bay . In the Central Vietnam lies plateaus,beautiful beaches, amazing lagoons and white sandy beaches. In the south lies the fertile Mekong River Delta. The country of Vietnam is surrounded by islands.

The Vietnam climate is of the tropical monsoon type with large amount of humidity throughout the year. Due to differences in latitude the climate of Vietnam varies from place to place. There are only two seasons in North Vietnam-cold wet winter( November to April) and hot,humid in the remaining part of the year. The mean summer temperature is around 22 degree Celsius. The summers are frequented by typhoons. On the whole it is hot in South Vietnam with temperatures soaring to 30 degree Celsius in the months of March, April and May. Summers are dry there . Monsoons follow from April to October.

The population in Vietnam consists of 54 various ethnic groups of which the Kinh (Viet) people constitute 90% of the population and the remaining 53 ethnic groups form the 10%.

The religions in Vietnam are Buddhism (blend of Taoism and Confusianism forms), Christianity (Catholicism and Protestantism), I slam, Caodaism and the Hoa Hao sect . The Independence day of Vietnam is celebrated on 2 nd September. Vietnam became independent on 2 nd September,1945.

The influence of China on the culture of Vietnam can be vividly seen. The culture of Vietnam is Confucian which stresses on doing duty blindly towards family and people. The traditional costume of Vietnam is "Áo Dài".The staple diet if the Vietnamese people is rice. .Besides rice the Vietnam cuisine consist of of fish sauce and soy sauce.

Vietnam has a communist f orm of government consisting of a single party rule. The country of Vietnam comprises 59 provinces and 5 province level cities which in turn is divided into districts and municipalities. The president of Vietnam is Nguy?n Minh Tri?t and the Prime Minister of Vietnam is Nguy?n T?n Dung . Some of the important cities in Vietnam are Ho Chi Minh City , Haiphong,Danang,Lam Dong.

Climate of Vietnam
Vietnam has a dominantly subtropical climate. Summers are sweltering and humid, while the winters are pleasant and dry. The summer/rainy season stretches from May to September, and the winter spell lasts from October to March.

Location of Vietnam
Vietnam lies to the south east of the Asian continent. The water bodies that surround it are the Gulf of Thailand, the Gulf of Tonkin and the South China Sea. Its political neighbors include China, Laos and Cambodia.
Flora And Fauna of Vietnam
Vietnam has flora typical of the rainforest variety. The jungles are dense and yield a lot of lumber; aside of these there is also a lot of jungle trees, bushes, flowers, low lying plants, mosses, vines and ferns to be found.

The other types of flora is of the crop variety and mainly comprise of paddy, vegetables, corn, fruits, potatoes, rubber, soybean, coffee, tea, banana and, sugarcane. The fauna too is very diverse with wild fauna including snakes, water buffalo, crocodiles, monkeys, wild boars, otters, tigers and panthers. The marine life around Vietnam is pretty thriving too. Domesticated animals are goats and pigs. Insects too abound in Vietnam.

Vietnam has a long stretch of coastline with most of its inland being low and flat. Deltas are abundant throughout. The central regions of the country are higher in level and comprise of hills and mountains as it proceeds towards the northwestern region of the country.
