PEOPLE OF CONGO

The population of Congo is distinguished in three major segments namely Kongo, Luba, Mongo. There are about hundred local dialects used here out of French is widely accepted with other languages like Kongo, Tshiluba, Swahili and Lingala. The Bateke of W Congo is the popular artwork of this region with its small figure like structures. Particularly designed with closed arms resting on a stiff body these structures basically depict human faces. This wooden architecture inlaid within porcelain is a magnificent piece of artwork typically designed with thick lips, beards and other basic features.

Culture: During ceremonial celebration the local people of Congo wear traditional attires made of raffia and bark. Thses multi lingual people believe in concept of mixed marriage among different communities. The cultural aspect to this place is most charmed by the Western influences.

Music: Soukous king of music accompanied with dance became quite popular in Congo. The famous music that was widely accepted in this place was the rumba or the rock-rumba, which was hard to decipher though it was quite in use during any kind of celebration. The other musical genres that came up were American swing, French Cabaret and Ghanaian highlife.

FLAG OF CONGO

The Flag of Congo is designed with red stripe bounded with two fine yellow stripes that diagonally divide the flag from the lower hoisting side to the upper fly area that rests on the sky blue background. The five pointed stars are scattered in the upper corner of the flag.

ECONOMY OF CONGO

The economic condition of Congo relies mainly on the agricultural and handicrafts industry. The crops that are reared and consumed are maniocs, sugarcane, rice, yams, bananas, corn, and peanuts. The export of crude petroleum in the southwest region along with the production of natural gas adds to the revenue income of the country. Timbers from the wooded rain forest are exported thereby adding 10 percent of the export earnings. The place even boasts of iron reserves along with the production of diamonds, zinc, lead, copper and gold. Some of the leading industries nestled here are the Lumbering, food processing, palm-product management, flour milling, and brewing.
