PEOPLE OF CAYMAN ISLANDS

With high standards living condition, the Caymanian people belong to the mixed breed that comes from the African-European race, out of which half derieve from the Caucasian and rest are from the African. Several religions thrive here especially the Christain, Presbyterians and Anglicans. The overall population amounts to about 57,800 as on April 2006 with George Town being its capital city.

ARTS, CULTURE AND MUSIC OF CAYMAN ISLANDS

Arts: The cultural foundation of Cayman Island showcases the Cayman Islands Arts Festival, held during April every annually, where the talent artworks of the local artists are displayed. Take part in the Caribbean Festival of Creative Arts (CARIFESTA) that illustrates the visual arts of the Caribbean region. Along with it one would find demonstration of creative writing, dance, painting, sculpture and many other artworks.

Culture: The people have mastered the skills of building homes that have descended from several generations. With wonderful artworks, singsong dialects, and spending time in the native celebrations and musical activities is something what one resorts to.

Music: The place is known for its folk style music and a blend of international pop music. The Cayman National Cultural Foundation is known for promoting its native folk music along with its local festivities. Participate in celebrations like Cayman Islands International Storytelling Festival, Pirate's Week Festival, Cayman JazzFest , Seafarers Festival and Cayfest and the Cayman JazzFest. There are several traditional musical instruments one may come across with like the popular one being the fiddle, drums, grater, accordion and mouth organ.

FLAG OF CAYMAN ISLANDS

The Cayman Flag came into existence during the year 1959. Designed with a union flag set on the background of Blue ensign adorned with the coat of arm that carries along with it the significance of the place. The shield, a crested helm and the motto form the coat of arm with three stars placed in the lower two-thirds of the shield set in the background of blue and white wavy bands that symbolises the sea. The golden lion known as passant guardant with its forepaw uplifted and body seen from the side that is placed on the red background on the top thoird of the shield represents the country of Britain. Lastly, the green turtle with a coil of rope constitutes the seafaring or the navigation industry with the thatch rope industry that is nestled in this place. The gold pineapple that top the shield on th turtle describes the close tie ups the country has with Jamaica.

The Cayman's Christian heritage is well denoted from the words of motto that is placed in the bottom which reads ‘He hath founded it upon the seas'.

ECONOMY OF CAYMAN ISLANDS

It is the tourism industry that adds value to the economic growth of the Cayman Island. The initial growth of the economy stood upon the harvesting of sea turtles, which later on declined considerably. Now the place attracts several tourists from round the world for its wonderful beaches, shopping, scuba diving and fishing. The famous tourist haunt in the region is the acclaimed Seven Mile Beaches that boosts up the tourism industry. People enjoy an upscale standard of living as the country earns its revenues from the gains of indirect taxation or import duty levied on imported goods.

The main currency of this region is Cayman Islands Dollar (KYD).
