The status of women in Comoros has improved a lot in the modern time. According to the World Bank estimates, the percentage of girls enrolled in the primary schools of Comoros since the late 20th century is 67. The percentage of girls attending the secondary schools of Comoros is 15. In this respect, there is a parity of the status of women in Comoros with the men in Comoros, whose percentage of eligible boys in the secondary schools is 19. The women in Comoros engage in the work force in fair numbers. Nearly 40.4 percent of the Comoros work force is reported to be constituted by Comoros women. This percentage substantiates the fact that the status of women in Comoros is better than the other sub-Saharan African countries.
The Constitution of Comoros honored the women of Comoros in 1992 by recognizing their suffrage rights. The women of Comoros have started casting their votes since then. The women, though, have not directly involved in the politics of Comoros in big numbers.
The young girls in Comoros are seen to be walking in the steps of the global trend. For higher education, the urban girls of Comoros have started migrating to the foreign countries.
Traditionally, though, Comoros is conservative about the women. In the religious month of Ramadan, the women in Comoros need to cover themselves from head to toe before going to the beaches.
