Cycle racing in Colombia has evolved into a very famous and sought-after sport. A fairly large number of cycle competitions are held in this Latin American city in a very grand and stylish way. Clasico RCN is one such cycle road race that takes place once in a year. The name is Spanish for RCN Classic. This cycle race is organized by the Colombian Cycling Federation and held in the month of October. In this race, the cyclists race through the different regions of Colombia.
This race is one of the most famous cycle races in Colombia that began in the year 1961. The first race was eventually won by Ruben Dario Gomez. Other recognizable names who have also won this prestigious event are Fabio Parra, Rafael Antonio Nino, Martin Emilio Rodriguez and Luis Herrera. This event is sponsored by Radio Cadena Nacional and Empresas Publicas de Medellin.
Vuelta a Colombia is another highly revered cycle races of Colombia that is also held once every year. Apart from taking place in the different regions of Colombia, the racers also enter Venezuela during the first few days of the month of August. This is one of the oldest races in the history of cycle racing in Colombia that had begun in 1951. Efrain Forero Trivino had won the first race.
The national body that governs all the cycle racing events in the city of Colombia is Colombian Cycling federation that is abbreviated as FCC. It is also a member of UCI and COPACI.
