A handful of extremely talented players have presented an entirely new dimension to the game of
chess in Colombia. They took it to their responsibility to take the game of
chess in Colombia to the next level. Amongst all the chess players in the Latin American country of Colombia, 3 players had truly made their mark in the International arena in a grand way. They are:
- Miguel Cuellar Gacharna
- Boris De Grieff and
- Luis Augusto Sanchez.
Achievements of Colombian Chess Players
Miguel Cuellar Gacharna was born on 18th November in the year 1916 and was a Colombian chess master. He has also achieved many significant milestones in his illustrious career. He had won the Colombian Chess Championship for eight times between 1945 and 1972. He also had the honor and privilege of representing the country of Colombia in six chess Olympiads as well. As a matter of fact, winning the 16th Olympiad in the year 1964 at Tel Aviv is one of the most important highlights of his glorious career.
Boris de Greiff Bernal was born on 13th February 1930 and was also a chess master. He also had achieved a lot in the field of chess in his life. One of his most significant achievements of his career was winning the 1951 Colombian Championship. He also had represented the country of Colombia in 9 chess Olympiads from 1954 to 1978. In the year 1957, he was awarded with the coveted title of International Master. He was also elected in FIDE or World Chess Federation in the year 2002.
Luis Augusto Sanchez was also a much respected chess player from Colombia. He had won the Colombian Championship six times and was awarded the IM title in the year 1951.
