It was in the mid-1980s that the society of Colombia was divided into four distinct social classes, namely the upper class, the middle class, the lower class and the masses. Besides, there were two major transitional sub-divisions, viz. the new rich and the upper lower class.
It is noteworthy that the social classes at Colombia were divided according to their occupation, income, life-style, education, family background and power. Colombians had been class conscious; therefore, the Colombia social classes play an important role in the society of Colombia.
