The current and 56th
President of Colombia is Alvaro Uribe Velez. At present he is running his second term as the President of Colombia. Earlier he had successfully completed his four year term from the year 2002 to 2006. He is a recipient of the very famous Simon Bolivar Scholarship by the British Council to join in the Saint Anthony's College, Oxford University as the Senior Associate Member.
Alavaro Uribe Velez started his journey of life from Medellin in the year 1952. By qualification the current Colombian President is a lawyer with specialization in administration and management from Harvard University. He had completed his legal studies from the Antioquia University after which he went to Harvard for further studies.
The first citizen of Columbia began his public career in 1976 as an asset manager at Empresas Publicas de Medellin. During 1984 and 1986, he became the Mayor of Medellin. He was twice elected as the Senator of Colombia between 1986 to 1990 and 1990 to 1994. The main turning point in his career came when he became the Governor of Antioquia state in the year 1995.
Achievements of the current President of Colombia
- He is the first President of Colombia to win in the first round of the presidential polls.
