The University of Zimbabwe was established in 1952. It is ideally situated in the northern Harare suburb of Mount Pleasant. This university is the largest and the first university of Zimbabwe. There are nine departments in this university. The university also has a college known as the College of Health Sciences Medicine. It is located in the Parirenyatwa Hospital.
The university follows English language as the medium of instruction. Besides domestic students, there are students from the East African region like Somalia, Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda.
The Zimbabwe University has a well-equipped library that is the source of all types of information and provides a broad exposure to the students. There are various kinds of journals, magazines and books in the library. The library also provides access to internet.
