Lake Chivero Recreational Park is located at a distance of 32 kilometers from city of Harare along the Harare-Bulawayo highway. Spread over 1,867 hectares of land, this park was opened in 1962. It is also known as Lake Mcllwaine Recreational Park after the name of a former judge of the High Court Sir Robert Mcllwaine.
Lake Chivero Recreational Park of Harare is covered with miombo and brachystegia woodland. Some other trees that dominate the park are monotes glaber, Julbernada globiflora, parinari curatellifolia and terminalia saricea. The various recreational activities that the tourists can involve themselves into at the park are:
- Horse riding for one and a half hours (except Monday): One from 8 am to 9:30 am and the other from 3:30 pm to 5 pm
- Swimming Pool
- Yachting, boating, rowing, angling and canoeing
- Game drive from 6 am to 6 pm
- Crocodile viewing from 7 am to 5 pm
- Tennis
- Game walks for one to five hours maximum
- Volley Ball
- Skull, bone and snake identification
- Fishing
