Being located on the Red Sea, it is treated as one of the most important ports in Yemen.
The city is sited close to several historic towns. Zabid, which is considered to be a major Islamic town has and is home to over 100 old mosques or masjids, is one such town. Added to this, Al Hudaydah also houses an old university. The picturesque old city of Al-Hudaydah is bordered by a thick wall. Like some other Yemenis cities, Al Hudaydah is also known for its decorated multistory buildings.
It is also assumed that during 1970s several edifices were built following the modern style of architecture.
