Cumana, the capital of the Sucre state, is situated in the eastern part of Venezuela, in the Gulf of Cariaco. For a perfect vacation in Venezuela, Cumana is one of the best locations in the country,

History of Cumana
Cumana was the first American city, founded in 1521 by a Spanish named Gonzalo de Ocampo. According to the Cumanagoto native tribe, Cumana means the union between the river and the sea. This city had Franciscan missionaries since 1515 and boasts of a rich culture. Antonio Jose de Sucre, the first president of Bolivia, was born in Cumana, Venezuela.

Attractions in Cumana
Situated on a flat land, Cumana has a hill with a castle, from where the scenic view of the Gulf of Cariaco and the entire city can be enjoyed. The castle in Cumana is the city's key attraction, which was originally built for the security of the city. Museum Antonio Jose de Sucre exhibits numerous objects and paintings of the 19th century. The church in Santa Ines and the cathedral situated near Bolivar square are extremely beautiful and popular.
