Caracas is the capital of Venezuela. Spanish explorer Diego de Losada founded it as Santiago de León de Caracas on July 25, 1567. With the growth of economy of oil-rich Venezuela during the 20th century, Caracas turned out to be one of Latin America's economic centers. It was also the preferred hub between Europe and South America.
Area & Location: Located on the north of the country, Caracas lies between 2,500 and 3,000 ft above sea level. The city covers a total area of 1,930 sq. km with a total population of 3,276,000 having a density of 1,697 per sq. km.
