Washington DC Metro is one of the most convenient ways of transport and communication in the capital city of the United States of America. The Metro in Washington DC is one of the oldest means of transport and has completed its silver jubilee in the year 2001. The subway system in Washington DC has helped in covering distances at the wink of an eye. Owned and managed by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority of Washington DC, the Washington DC Metro system in the city is being expanded rapidly.

Washington DC Metro is highly mechanized and stylish. The Metro stations are spacious and have arched roofs. In the present scenario, 83 kilometers of rail lines are under ground with 52 underground stations. Apart from these, 37 stations are on the surface of the ground. The Washington DC Metro rail lines also extend to Maryland and Virginia. The rail lines are categorized into five colors-blue, orange, green, yellow and red, depending on the destination to where the Metro goes.
