The history of Tucson is very interesting. The protective mountains on all sides and the presence of the fertile land along the Santa Cruz River made Tucson an ideal place for human settlement. The Tucson region has been inhabited for at least twelve thousand years. Tucson experienced Spanish and Mexican rules in the course of history.

During the early stages of development, Tucson was known as a rough and rowdy frontier town inhabited by several rogue gangs. But gradually the mobs in Tucson were brought under control. Tucson was acquired by the United States from Mexico 1854.

Tucson's growth as an eminent city in Arizona was given boost by the arrival of the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1880 and by the discovery of silver and copper at nearby places. The natural beauty of Tucson further led to the development of tourism industry in this city. Tucson is now home to 502,400 people.
