Topeka Schools are consistent high performers in the State of Kansas. The students show excellent performances in examinations like state level Kansas State Assessments (KSA) in areas like Reading and Maths. Grade 4 students scored 98% on Reading where the state average was 98% and 97% on Math where the state average was 81%. Grade 5 students also scored high 97% in both assessments against state averages of 77% for Reading and 79% for Math.
    Sixth graders also have consistently high scores with 96% in both subjects, against state averages of 78% for Reading and 74% in Math. Female students performed better in Reading while Male students did better in Math. The teacher to student ratio is 1:16 which is on the higher side when compared to the state average. 16% of the students qualify for the free lunch program implying the more or less affluent status of the school.

Eighth Graders scored 93% on Reading where the state average was 77% and 87% on Maths where the state average was 67%. Female students scored high on Reading skills and male students did well on Math. The teacher to student ratio is 1:12 which on the lower side when compared to the state average.

    The Washburn High School has 1635 students and 4 grades from 9 to 12. Students performed very well on the Kansas State Assessments (KSA). Tenth Grade students scored 72% against the state average of 58% in Math and the Eleventh Graders scored 84% in Reading against the State average of 77%. Female students performed better in Math while male students topped Reading scores. The teacher to student ratio is 1:15 which is on the higher side when compared to the state average.
