Tallahassee is the capital of the U.S State of Florida. The name "Tallahassee" is a Muskogean Indian word which means "old fields" or "old town." Being the county seat of Leon County, the city is also a home to Florida State University, Florida A & M University, Tallahassee Community College, Pat Thomas Law Enforcement Academy and Barry University. Tallahassee Regional Airport serves the city, which is considered as a regional center for trade and agriculture. Many major highways also bridge the city with other regions. It is traditionally a politically progressive city where politicians meet to discuss on the development of places such as Miami and Tampa Bay. Tallahassee remained the only confederate state in the country not captured by Union forces. The city consistently chooses Democratic Party to have an authority over it.



Area & Location:Tallahassee rests on one of the highest hills of the city, which is noted for its hilly terrain. Located at 30°27'6? Latitude North and 84°16'22? Longitude West, it spreads across an area of 254.5 sq. km. Its land area is 247.9 sq. km and its water area constitutes 6.6 sq. km of the total area. Tallahassee experiences the widest range of temperatures from summer to winter in Florida. Around 156, 612 people reside in the city with a population density of 607.6 sq. km.

Economy: Although printing, publishing, food processing and lumber industry play a major role in the stability of the city's economy,

the government is the central focus in maintaining its financial strength. Being the state capital city, Tallahassee enjoys a stable economy with high employment rate. The city regarded as the most wired community in the country, is known for the production of many items and goods such as pulpwood, pine extracts, insecticides, pre-stressed concrete, lumber, boats and feed. It is also a high technology center with many technology companies dug their roots deep its soil. The fastest growing business sectors in the city are telecommunications, computer hardware vendors, software developers and trade associations.

Tourist Attractions:Tallahassee offers many attractive sites where its visitors can enjoy and relax leaving behind all their tensions. Alfred B. Maclay State Gardens, a 28-acre Florida State Park botanical garden, which has 18 historic buildings, 4 structures and 4 objects, delights the tourists with its variety of gorgeous flowers. The Florida State Capitol building that houses the executive, legislative offices, State House and Senate chambers is also an attraction in the city. The number of lakes such as Lake Bradford, Lake Ella, Lake Jackson and Lake Talquin offers a fantastic experience to its visitors with a boat ride. Lake Jackson Mounds Archaeological State Site, Mission San Luis de Apalachee -the capital of Apalachee province, Railroad Square Art Park, Tom Brown Park, Young Actors Theatre, Wakulla Springs State Park, Natural Bridge Battlefield State Historic Site are other places that draws attention of millions of people from far and wide.
