St Paul, Minnesota

St. Paul is the capital of the state of Minnesota in the United States. It is also titled with the second-largest city in the state. The city received its name in 1841, when Father Galtier established the St. Paul Church in the heart of its soil. St. Paul was incorporated as a city in 1854 and in 1858 it became the 32nd state capital of United States. St. Paul and the adjacent city of Minneapolis form the core of the area and have been named as the Twin Cities. Noted for its neighborhoods, the city is called "fifteen small towns with one mayor".

Area & Location: Located just south of 45 degrees north latitude in the northern suburb of Roseville, on the east side of Cleveland Avenue and a block north of Roselawn Avenue, Saint Paul covers a total area of 145.5 sq. km. Its land area spreads across 136.7 sq. km and water area covers 8.8 sq. km. The city has a population of 276,963.

Economy: Services, wholesale and retail trade, manufacturing and government constitute the principal economic sectors of St. Paul. St. Paul holds the largest number of high-technology firms in the United States. Ranked among the major commercial centers, the city has also been listed among the two or three largest livestock and meatpacking centers in the nation. It is also a residence of 1000 companies including the world's largest private companies. The stability of its economy lies with the production of many goods such as hoists and derricks, rugs, computers, food products, medical products, machinery, electronic materials, automobiles, appliances, chemicals, abrasives, beer and printed products.

Tourist Attractions: Ordway Center for the Performing Arts which plays host to a wide variety of performing arts attract the art loving tourists.
